Fall Has Arrived at The Mystery Cafe, Along With New Shows!

Fall is one of our favorite times of year here in New England – the weather is perfect, the foliage is gorgeous, and in Boston the city comes back to life with the return of all the students. This fall is particularly exciting for us at the Mystery Cafe for several reasons. Let’s break it down for you:

1. Night of the Laughing Dead Premiered at the Elephant & Castle on September 28th

mystery cafe

This year, we are proud to present our newest addition to the Mystery Cafe show roster, Night of the Laughing Dead, an interactive comedy/murder mystery about the Zombie Apocalypse, featuring both scripted and unscripted moments.

Don’t be scared…it’s just the end of the world.

The Mystery Cafe has made special arrangements for you to participate in the next group meeting of the ZAPS (Zombie Apocalypse Prevention Specialists). You and your select group of would-be survivors will be directed to the ZAPS secure location where the world’s top experts in the field of Armageddon Preparation will ensure you are well fed in safety and in comfort.

Guests are greeted by the cast and welcomed to a special, socially-focused meeting of the ZAPS (Zombie Apocalypse Prevention Society). Everyone has come together to celebrate the naming of John Q. Law, Sheriff of Boston, as the newest foreman and acting head of the organization.

But even though you will be locked in a secure bunker, safe from the Horde, a murderer could still be lurking among you. Twists and surprises abound as you become part of the show – hopefully not as one of the meals!

Solve the crime, stay alive, and have a great time – you may just die laughing at Night Of The Laughing Dead! Shows are performed every Saturday night at the Elephant & Castle in Boston, with doors opening at 7:00pm and the show starting at 7:30pm.

2. ComedySportz Boston Makes it’s Debut at the Davis Square Theatre on October 18th

A world comedy phenomenon is finally coming to Boston – it’s ComedySportz Boston (CSz), the family-friendly improvisational comedy played as a sport. Audiences who like “Whose Line Is It Anyway?” will love ComedySportz Boston’s fast paced action which incorporates audience’s suggestions in every show.  CSz’s match features two teams of  ‘actletes’ competing for laughs and points, with a referee keeping things moving and calling fouls. Like all good sporting events, we even have the National Anthem start things off. An average of seven to twelve games are played during a match, drawn from a repertoire of over one hundred improv games.  Every show offers different players, different games, and different audiences supplying new suggestions. The fans judge the scenes and games and ultimately decide the winners and losers. On occasion, a ComedySportz team asks “willing volunteers” to join in the fun.

ComedySportz is great for all ages, from young kids to grandparents. If an ‘actlete” steps beyond the boundaries of good taste, the “brown bag foul” (a brown paper sack placed over the offending player’s head) will be called to set things straight. ComedySportz even works for tough-to-please business groups.  Shows are Fridays and Saturdays beginning on October 18 and running through December 20, 2013 (November 8th at 6:00pm & November 9th at 5:00pm are during the Boston Comedy Festival) at the Davis Square Theatre located at 255 Elm Street in Somerville. Doors open at 6:30pm and shows begins at 7:00pm.  Tickets are only $18, with group rates and special shows are available.

3. MobFellas Returns to the North End on October 25th

mystery cafeWe are delighted to bring back our smash hit MobFellas to Riccardo’s Ristorante in the North End on select Friday nights through December. This show at this location is perfect – the Italian Dinner is served “family style” and the family that owns the restaurant just loves our actors and our audiences.

Let Mystery Café usher you into the secret world of the mafia elite. Rub elbows with wiseguys, killers and femmes fatales as you take part in the celebration in which a mob underling will become a “made” man.

Mob boss Carmine Pelagatti is set to bestow a great honor on one of his top men, but in a world where murder comes with a smile, the night is bound to be marred by betrayal, double-dealing and even death.

You’ll need to keep your wits about you to keep up with the cast of fast-talking fast-shooting characters and make it out with your honor and your life intact. Figure out who whacked who and maybe you’ll have it “made.”
